"McCoy"

(Appears Solid Black)* Bicolor Longcoat male (Carries self-color)

Born 1/3/05 PennHIP scored: .23/.33 (at 14 mos) , OFA Elbows: Normal

Occupation: In training for Herding, Obedience Trial Procedures class, and backpacking.

*When Sunny and McCoy produced sables, a self black AND a saddle patterned pup, there obviously was something wrong in what we thought about how color genetics in GSDs work OR we were not seeing something correctly! A Parentage DNA Profile was checked on McCoy, Spike, and Sunny. The results are conclusive that McCoy and Sunny are in fact Spike's parents. Therefore, McCoy most likely is an extremely dark bicolor, not a self black as previously thought. The only non-black color he has is on his britches!

McCoy was bred by Lineke Wegman of The Netherlands, http://www.yentlsyard.com/

This picture was taken when he was 4 1/2 weeks old.

At 8 weeks of age McCoy began his long journey home to America at Schiphol International Airport in Amsterdam. He obviously was very concerned that his tennis ball was going to escape!

After a long journey through several time zones, he took a short nap and was ready to play!

Daisy, the youngest of the pack at the time, became his best friend and favorite chew toy.

At 4 months of age McCoy exhibited a very strong herding instinct. First he watched...................

........then he followed. Sometimes he followed a little too closely and it became apparent that he would require some guidance around stock.

At 8 months of age, McCoy began formal training in herding goats.

Since McCoy is much better at herding than I am, he works with an experienced trainer and I work with an experienced dog.

This was McCoy's first time on an Agility course obstacle. He was quite comfortable with all of the obstacles. Perhaps in the future we will give Agility a try too!

At one year of age McCoy has developed into a handsome dog, confident in his work and eager to please.
